This is a 1930s devastatingly sensational gown to die for 🖤! For sale on the Etsy shop TheRomantiquary https://www.etsy.com/nz/listing/811282281/incredible-1930s-black-satin-bishop?ref=user_profile. If she had been my size I would have snapped her up.

This Incredible 1930s dress is made of a luxurious black silk satin that is cut on the bias. The dress has an illusion neck with satin stripe detail on a black bobbinet. The neck closes up in the back with snaps that are hidden by sweet little bows. The sleeves on this gown are just superb, they are bishop sleeves that have been crossed with a leg of a mutton sleeve with the volume ending just below the elbow and are fitted the rest of the way down. There are faux buttons down the fitted sleeves with three buttons on the inside of the wrist that allow your hand to get through. The dress is an over the head slip-on style with a side opening done up with snaps. The dress has its original matching belt with rhinestone buckles and is attached at the waist with loops. The gown just slinks over the hips and falls gracefully to the ankles.

“One of my absolute most beloved vintage dresses. It’s a late 1930s cornflower blue dress with white embroideries and pockets! When I got this dress a few years ago, it had 1930s flutter sleeves, but I gathered them and hid the seam with a pearlescent button. I also replaced the damaged fabric belt buckle with this 1910s mother of pearl one. ✨ I have absolutely zero sewing skills so this just involved a few stitches. I never do alterations that are not reversible, and with this dress I feel like I’ve made it better. It’s a complete dream of a dress and the fit is absolutely amazing!”

This dress! I adore it! A vintage late 1930s early 40s black dress with amazing details. This beautifully tailored dress is made of soft black crepe rayon fabric, beautifully decorated shoulder and neckline also in crepe rayon with accent colour beige and covered with a gorgeous red cherries and green leaves embroidery. The cherries are also decorated with tiny white metal buttons. A beautiful tailored A-line skirt and the fitted waist has a zipper closure on the side, black fabric covered buttons on the back, three quarter sleeves and shoulder pads.

“Cycle of vintage 🕊 Saw this Marie Antoinette-esque late 1930s dress on Etsy a couple of years ago, regretted not buying it (thought it would be too short), then I saw it on Instagram for sale a year or so later, but was too slow to get it. Thought it was forever lost, but then it suddenly was offered to me in a trade after a while 🎀 It obviously just wanted to live with my wardrobe!✨Will be wearing it for the vintage fair on sunday! ✨ (Not for sale!) .”

“I’ve always been obsessed with the aesthetics of the past. I long for dreamy, fantastical universes of ballet and pastels and try to recreate these in my personal style. I dress in the late 1930s- early 1940s clothing, preferably teenage swing styles. I have extensive knowledge of vintage clothing and styles from different time periods, but I have chosen not to dress historically accurate. Instead, I incorporate influences from movies, art, and ballet to express my personal style, although my wardrobe is exactly dated between 1937 and 1943.”

FOR SALE – email jane@janetunnicliffe.style if interested.

This is a stunning 1930s fine hand crochet black top from my personal collection. It was made by crocheting one whole piece and hand stitched together at the side seams.

Size Large: Bust 96cm, Waist 100cm (waist is bigger than bust as it flares out at the bottom slightly) Length mid shoulder to hem 50cm. Top also has a bit of stretch due to the nature of the crochet knit. I have taken in the side seams by neat hand stitching so they can be taken out if needed.
